Do you find yourself browsing the web, daydreaming of a better place, better job or better experience?
You are not alone…
When I was in college, I realized a mountain of debt that was growing slowly under me. That debt and the growing anxiety knowing that I would somehow have to pay it off was the driving factor for me to marry work with passion. I thought, at least I could enjoy myself while chiseling away at my debt.
That drive that lead me to join the sales team at Real Watersports (the mecha in the kiteboarding industry). I remember watching videos and reading magazines feeling like, this is where I needed to be. It was a great experience, I got to build my knowledge about the kiteboarding and surf industry. But the biggest take away was I learned to surf (a lifelong goal of mine!).
Falling into routine
I met some great people and made many great memories while I was there, but after 5 years I didn’t feel challenged anymore. Progression had slowed down and I fell into a routine which soon became stale. Being in the same position year after year, with no forward progress or challenge wore me down. All I wanted was something… anything else to change it up… I craved more variety in my life.
Escaping Routine
That variety came in the form of travel.
A couple years into my time at Real Watersports I took a month-long solo trip to Costa Rica. While I was there I developed a new perspective. I had never met a group of people with such a great outlook on life. Returning from that trip, my friends noticed a change in me.
I didn’t let the little things get me down as much, plain and simple… I was happier.
The one idea that changed everything was life is what you make it. If you are constantly in search of the next thing to make you happy, you’ll always be searching. You can choose positivity, which in turn will provide you with happiness in your life.
The Secret
This was all reaffirmed to me when I was leaving Real last November. I rediscovered a book that had been given to me just after high school. Being naive at the time, I never read it (dumb call, I should have read it years ago!)
The book is called THE SECRET, and it’s been monumental in my life to keep me on a positive mindset.
It’s all about how to construct your life to deliver the things you desire and keep those you don’t at bay.
Looking back on the moments that make up this part of my life, one thing has become abundantly clear.
Life doesn’t happen when we want it to, it happens when it’s supposed to… I was given that book back in high school but for some reason, I never took the time to read it. When I finally did… it changed my life.
Focus on positivity and a and the rest will follow.
If you have made it to the end of this post, chances are you were in a similar spot as I was. If you are looking for a change check out THE SECRET. You won’t regret it.
