For a long as I can remember, I have always dreamt of living out of the country. To fully immerse
After a few months snowboarding in Washington State, I was so stoked to finally have the opportunity to move to Nicaragua in March, 2018.
First Impressions
Nicaragua is beautiful country in Central America just north of Costa Rica. When we arrived late at night (after midnight) there wasn’t much to see on the drive in. We were in for quite a surprise when we woke up the next morning. The Surf Sanctuary is a small oasis tucked off the road by the beach.
Nicaraguan people are hard working, welcoming and happy to meet others. I felt safe walking around by myself, going to the beach at night and explore around The Surf Sanctuary.
Where will I be?
For the next year Kylie and myself will be managing The Surf Sanctuary in Limon 2. It’s located in the souther part of Nicaragua just off Playa Santana (one of their many surf breaks).
Limon 2 is a 2.5 hr drive outside of Managua (Nicaragua main airport). It is a secluded beach town with a few restaurants and a new brewery called Compo. The nearest (full sized) grocery store is about 45 minutes away in Rivas, so if you plan to make your own meals, plan accordingly.
We are stoked to meet all the people coming to explore Nica and I’m stoked to be by so many
Lifestyle in Nicaragua
One word that comes to mind when thinking about the lifestyle in Nica is “Tranquilo“. The pace of life runs on Nica time, which means it will happen when it happens.
That means leave your schedules and timelines at home. Your taxi may be an hour early or an hour late.. and thats completely ok!
The longer you are there, the more the hours and days stop to matter. It’s a great place to reset and just enjoy your time with yourself or partner.
Are you stressed and need some downtime? Nicaragua is a great place to visit if surf and relaxation are high on your priority list.

***Update July 2018 – Nicaragua is experiencing civil turmoil which has made travel trickier. Nicaragua is safer out towards the coast (great for surfers). For families I would rethink travel to Nicaragua until the political action slows down***
